Philippians 2

Christ’s Example of Humility

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from a love, any b participation in the Spirit, any c affection and sympathy, d complete my joy by being e of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from f selfish ambition or g conceit, but in h humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you i look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. j Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus
Or which was also in Christ Jesus
l who, though he was in m the form of God, did not count equality with God n a thing to be grasped, but o emptied himself, by taking the form of a p servant
Greek bondservant
r being born in the likeness of men.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself by s becoming obedient to the point of death t even death on a cross. u Therefore v God has w highly exalted him and bestowed on him x the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus y every knee should bow, z in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and aa every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is ab Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Lights in the World

12 Therefore, my beloved ac as you have always ad obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for ae it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for af his good pleasure.

14 Do all things ag without grumbling or ah disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent ai children of God aj without blemish ak in the midst of al a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine am as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to an the word of life, so that in ao the day of Christ ap I may be proud that aq I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be ar poured out as a drink offering upon as the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.

Timothy and Epaphroditus

19 I hope in the Lord Jesus at to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. 20 For I have no one au like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. 21 For they all av seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know Timothy’s
Greek his
ax proven worth, how ay as a son

with a father ba he has served with me in the gospel.
23 I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me, 24 and bb I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also.

25 I have thought it necessary to send to you bc Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and bd fellow soldier, and your messenger and be minister to my need, 26 for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. 29 So bf receive him in the Lord with all joy, and bg honor such men, 30 for he nearly died bh for the work of Christ, risking his life bi to complete what was lacking in your service to me.
